2008 CIK-FIA KF1 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP & KF2 WORLD CUP

GREAT EXPECTATIONS FOR THE KEY EVENT OF THE SEASON

THE MURO LECCESE TRACK IN ITALY WILL HOST THE KF1 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, THE MOST IMPORTANT EVENT OF THE COMPETITIVE SEASON.  EVEN THE KF2 WILL BE ON THE TRACK IN THE CHALLENGE FOR THE WORLD CUP.

The most important test of the competitive season, the 45th edition of the CIK-FIA KF1 World Championship will be raced next weekend, from September 18-21, 2008 at the La Conca International Racetrack at Muro Leccese. The karting world championship was organized in 1964 for the first time, and is the oldest World Championship in the FIA, after the Formula 1 begun in 1950.
With 144 expected participants to the golden test in Italy (among the drivers registered with the KF1 World Championship and the current KF2 World Cup), 26 countries and four of the 5 continents will be represented.
There are 49 drivers registered in the KF1 class among whom are our own Sauro Cesetti and Libor Toman, in the race with Birel Motorsport colours.  Also with Birel colours and high expectations are Parrott (Team MGM) and Ryall (Team GKS), while the adversaries to be feared the most are the 2007 Champion, Marco Ardigò, along with Davide Forè, Gary Catt, Jonathan Thonon and Arnaud Kozlinski.
Along with the Drivers’ World Championship, the Team World Cup is also up for grabs, and is awarded based on the results of the two drivers chosen by each team.  In this ranking, Birel Motorsport’s adversaries will be CRG, Maranello, Kosmic, Tony Kart and Sodi. The World Championship also includes another prestigious trial: the KF2 World Cup that is to karting like the GP2 is to Formula 1. There are 95 drivers committed to this category.  These 95 drivers have obtained the right to participate according to selection criteria based on their results in the CIK-FIA Continental Championship or on their classification in their respective National Championships.  Among the 95 registered drivers, Birel Motorsport will be defended by  Jack Harvey (Iame engine), Giacomo Patrono (Tm engine) and Zoel Amberg (Iame engine), but there will also be many Birel drivers in the race with external teams, for example,  Robin Frjins (Birel -Tm), 3rd in the Braga European Final.  Among the adversaries they will be up against are the new European Champion,  Flavio Camponeschi, Robert Foster-Jones and Joel Johansson. The World Championship Final will be broadcast on direct TV on Eurosport International from 14:30 until 15:15, with a link also on RAI Sport. All of the results of the race – from the non-qualifying races on Thursday to the finals on Sunday – will be published on www.birel.com.
