S1 MSA BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP - ROUND 3
SIMPSON AND BIREL CONQUER AGAIN!
ROUND 3 OF THE S1 MSA BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP SAW THE SERIES ARRIVE AT THE BEAUTIFUL BUT CHALLENGING CIRCUIT OF ROWRAH.
All eyes were once again on Birel driver Michael Simpson KF 2 after his dominant display at Rd 2 at the PFI circuit. We were not to be disappointed as Simpson was again class of the field. Time Qualifying was the only negative point of the weekend as Simpson qualified 3rd “our set up is more suited to the race” commented an unconcerned Simpson.
He was to be proved right as in both heats Simpson took his Birel/TM into the lead never to be challenged and meant he would start from Pole position in Final 1. Jordan Chamberlin Tony/Vortex briefly took the lead at the start but Simpson made his move on lap two and pulled enough of a gap to ease his way to victory.
In final 2 it was Chamberlin again hot off the lights but with a the start of lap 2 Simpson pulled an easy overtake into turn 3 which compromised Chamberlin and left him vulnerable to a spirited attack from Rob Foster Jones Alonso/Vortex. This gave Simpson the opportunity to get a cushion and a safety gap which he controlled throughout the race.
Simpson and team boss Andy Cox (ACR) were delighted “For sure this race was very hard, the consumption of the tyre in this track is high which meant the set up was very important. Our package of the Birel r31 and the TM engine from GFR were fantastic. Michael did a fantastic job! “commented Andy Cox.
Next Round: Larkhall 16th/17th July 2008.
