FFSA -FRANCE CHAMPIONSHIP VARENNE, JUNE 1
THOMAS MICH FRENCH CHAMPION
The 2008 French championship will go down in the history of modern karting for having taken place under the rain: in fact, none of the 3 races took place without bad weather. The show therefore remained constant and the competition was intense up until the very end. The last weekend of racing had to be run before the name of the 2008 Champion was known. Moreover, all of the drivers present were able to acquire solid experience in difficult meteorological conditions. In the KF2 it was Charles Lacaze who ended up with enough points for the victory, despite having a tenacious and strong adversary in the Belgian Robin Frijns (Birel-GKS). Only a bit of luck was missing for the Birel drivers, but they had talent and technical potential at their disposition, managed by the prestigious GKS team. The Varenne race, the last FFSA Karting Grand Prix of the season, was characterized by a large number of drivers, especially in the KZ2 category. The shifter class, in fact, will race the 2008 World Cup on the French racetrack during the month of September. Therefore, for this occasion, besides the VIPs from the French Championship, also many international drivers, like Ardigò and Kozlinski, were on the track. But Thomas Mich had no problems gaining the points necessary to give the Birel colours the most important victory despite the calibre of his adversaries and a technical problem with his brakes that, in the semi-final, had put him among the last positions. It was a leader’s final, in fact, that allowed him to move back up to 2nd place, winning the title with great merit. The MGT team drivers, who will race in the World Cup with the Birel Motorsport team, will certainly be among the most authoritative candidates for victory in the important race in September. For the record, the race victory went to Marco Ardigò while the Frenchman Maisano won in the KF3.
