ROUND 2 OF THE S1 MSA BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP

SIMPSON AND BIREL UNSTOPPABLE!

Round 2 of the S1 MSA British Championship saw the series arrive at the superb PFI International circuit. UK importer for Birel Andy Cox was optimistic that good results could be achieved with his drivers Michael Simpson and Jack Harvey in KF2 and Alex Lynn in KF3.
In Qualifying Harvey came out in second place narrowly missing pole by 0.01 secs, team mate Simpson was 6th 0.05 behind – it was very close. The heats saw Harvey collect a 4th place after a rough 1st heat and a second behind Simpson who was flying. Simpson won his other heat and lined up on pole position for Final 1 with Harvey on 3rd. In the early laps it was a Birel one – two with Simpson and Harvey flying the colours of Birel magnificently – but then disaster for Harvey as his Iame engine expired and retirement. Simpson meanwhile drove on and cruised to an easy win nearly 4 seconds ahead of his rivals!
Final 2 saw Simpson hit the front form Pole and ease away to a six second lead, Harvey however was collected in an accident in the start having started at the back of the grid but recovered well to 12th position and fastest lap. Simpson glided his Birel/ TM around the PFI circuit with little effort and demonstrated the new performance level of the 2008 Birel R31 SE chassis.
In KF3 Alex Lynn was strong in his heats nearly taking a win before a broken clutch saw him fade to 9th. An accident in heat 2 meant a grid of 16th in final 1, a chaotic start saw Lynn exit the track on turn 1 and re starting from last he recovered to 11th ! In Final 2 Lynn made a great start on his Birel/TM and was soon up to 6th. With the laps ticking by he made it up to 3rd and then passing under a yellow flag Lynn had to offer the place back to the other driver to avoid a penalty but in doing so lost 4 places! The end lap saw more contact in the front places and on the last corner Lynn managed as superb manoeuvre to take 4th place.
