More than 200 pilots divided into 29 teams run in the 13th edition of the 24 Hours Karting Italy, the event organized by the Birel Group which was held, as always, on the Jesolo track. This fascinating race, the longest in the kart Endurance racing word, confirmed itself with the unique charm able to recall both expert pilots (like Daniel Mancinelli, Giorgio Sernagiotto and Alberto Cola), than motor fans, old and new ones. The formula of the race has been tested over the time and scheduled the kart delivery to all the team by Birel Motorsport, a real guarantee in terms of professionalism and technical reliability.
Even the organizational aspects were managed by the Birel Group, which set up the Box structures, a huge Hospitality are for pilots and efficient services on track. From the sporting point of view, the success went to the GDM Racing team with Aresta, Barletta, Vuolo, Tartari, Geldhof, Rana and Laporte; the team led by Salvatore Costantinopoli won over Kayak that, during the first hours had some technical problems and a contact during the first night, before starting the recovery from the 5th to the 2nd place before Mokart Como, VKI Racing Team and Magic Freem.
Among the most choreographical moments of the event there were the performances of some pilots, which saw 210 protagonists of the event ready on the starting line. The team that made the highest number of pit stop was the Best Lap 3, with 56 pilots changes, while the teams that made the fewer number of changes were the New Gomme 2000 Corse, Motozappa and Muttley Nutria with a pit stop less than Kayak and five less than the winners. The large amount of work, made by the Race Direction, gave birth to 54 Stop and Go. The formula of the event was fun and full of emotions and all the protagonists of the event decided to meet again in the 2012 edition for which important news about the engine are in progress.
The race report:
The show started already during the qualification with Daniel Mancinelli who gave the pole position to the FKP team with the time of 59”867, beating for only 7 thousandths Francesco Aresta of the GDM Racing team and for 43 thousandths Nicola Cogato of the VKI Racing Team. Same detachments, to underline the huge balance on track and of the karts (managed by Birel Motorsport) given to the teams by a draw even for the other positions.
The 4th place went to the CH-Karting Team with 59”929 (53 thousandths from the pole) which choose Marco Moretti for this race phase, while following there were Kayak 150 Racing (with a changed name in honor of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy), Persi Corse, Kart 1 Team, Orsetti Volanti 1, Magic Freem and Lhasa Racing Team.
The race started at 14 on Saturday and was given by the Race Directors Gianni Clementi and Loreno Longo, after the great pilots parade with the hostesses on the grid for the classic photo. In the first phases of the race, the huge balance emerged already during the qualification, was confirmed by the fight of the 10 teams, which saw Venanzetti of the FKP Team leading the group, followed by Prati, of the VKI Team, Barletta of the GDM Racing, Borghese of Kayak, Polli of Spirit(osi) and Bergonzini of Persicorse.
Then the GDM Team led the race, followed by Kayak, VKI Racing Team, Orsetti Volanti 1 and Mokart Como but the positions stabilized only after the first pit stop of the race with the GDM Racing kart driven by Francesco Aresta, able to maintain the VKI Racing Team at 5”, then Mokart Como at 7”, Orsetti Volanti 1 at 9”, Kayak at 15” and Persi Corse at 18”. in the top ten ended also the Magic Freem, 6th before FKP, then Lhasa Racing Team at the 8th position before the Polish Kart 1 Team and CH-Karting.
Following also the New Gomme 2000 Corse, Miout Kart Racing, Motozappa Kart Team, Irsap in Cors@ and Sais KT. At the end of the first hour the GDM Team maintain the lead of the race with few seconds on Mokart Como that preceded the FKP of 4” and the VKI Racing Team of 3”. The detachments were small for all the first phases of the race and also during the 3rd hour of race 5 were the teams into 40” with the GDM Racing leading the race followed by Kayak and Magic Freem. The first real result in terms of chart arrived at the end of the first half of the race, after 12 hours of race at 2 o'clock in the morning: GDM Racing Team was 2 laps ahead Mokart Como and 4 on Magic Freem, in 3rd place.
Kayak, thanks to an off track and 2 stops at the box for some engine problems, lost 6 laps and the 5th position behind VKI Racing Team.
At the 6th position there was the Lhasa Racing Team while following there were Persi Corse, FKP, PCC Racing Team and Kart 1 Team. The night was difficult and long as always and the top ten teams saw the abandon, for some technical problems, of the Orsetti Volanti 1 team as well as the great recovery of Kayak, that, during the first hours of the dawn, gained space overtaking Magic Freem and VKI Racing Team.
At the end of the 22nd hour of racing the GDM was still leading the competition with a huge gap (7 laps) from Mokart Como, while the team led by Daniele Sala was reached by Kayak and started a fight for the 2nd place.
In 4th place the VKI Racing Team maintained the distance from the Magic Freem that, during the last laps fought with Lhasa Racing Team that was slowed down by a problem of the carburetor. At 14 o'clock on Sunday, under a bright sun, the checkered flag has hailed the success of the GDM Racing, repeating the success of 2008 before the great Kayak team, Mokarta Como (Cola, Forte, Maniero, Mazzilli, Costa, Burri, Baratto), beaten by just 50". at the 4th place ended a great race the VKI Racing Team (Bassi, Prati, Pirati, Girelli, Mininno, Zanettin, Gogato, Zanettin) which preceded the Magic Freem team (Puppato, Basso, Scapin, Sernagiotto, Smania, Simoni, Gazzola) and Lhasa Racing Team (Cannito, Angeletti, Della Valle, Monfrini, Gambini, Chizzoni, Balbo, Tognoni).
The top ten was completed by Persi Corse, FKP, Kart Team and Vercelloni Serramenti, who did great during the last phases beating PCC Racing Team, authors, however, of a very good test at their debut in a 24 Hours.
12th place for CH-Karting, which preceded Sais KT (back from the last position after a contact in the early stages of the race) and Muttley Nutria of Giancarlo Carniello, another team penalized by some problems during the first 12 hours race.
Even the L a Tre Costruzioni team obtained less than exspected due to 2 stops, but it had fought anyway to end in 15th place, recovery 4 positions during the last 8 hours of race. In 16th place ended the Motozappa Kart Team, before Miout Kart Racing, Irsap In Cors@, New Gomme 2000 Corse and Best Lap 1.
Following there were Ypsilon Agency, Orsetti Volanti 2, Best Lap 3, Spirit(osi), Best Lap 2, Super Trucis and BB. The 2011 edition of the 24 Hours Karting of Italy ended with a great balance terms of organizational and sports, confirming itself as an event of infinite charm.
