EASYKART PROJECT
WHAT IS EASYKART?
Easykart is a project aiming at the development of basic karting and at pilots’ training. This program was promoted by Birel team management in the late 1990’s following international market analysis operations that pointed out the main problems that had been causing a serious drop in the number of pilots, in all age groups, over several years.
It the first place it was clear that the high running costs constituted an obstacle to the popularity of karting as a sport and that also the junior classes were affected.
Along with these issues many other aspects were identified as barriers: far too sophisticated karts, excessive number of categories, nonlinear regulations, complex racing formats and, more generally, little assistance and few qualified services dedicated to the racers.
It was immediately clear that effective solutions could not be offered by only creating a new product or category. The essential thing was to draw up a serious project, which could create a training path for juniors while offering efficient solutions to all those basic pilots not involved with karting top classes. To achieve such goals karting had to be reinvented, creating a well articulated and ambitious project. A project which ranges from karting schools and children’s activities to the chance for the best pilots to upgrade to KF classes while offering over 16s the possibility to continue in 125 single brand classes, in an agonistic context characterized by low running costs and high competitiveness.
Easykart can now boast a remarkable record: almost 100% pilots reach 50cc Training class, then 60cc and finally 100cc. This path, which involves racers from 6 to 16 years of age, is one of the keys to success of this project. It then effectively continues in both single speed and Shifter 125cc classes. Those who do not reach International “KF” classes can in fact continue with national karting, enjoying the best value for money ratio on the market, by joining the Easykart 125cc classes dedicated to over 16s.
In order to achieve such goals it was necessary to set up a range of products and a technical-sport regulation respecting the functional features of the project: reduction of running costs and easy approach to this sport. This is why the commercial choice privileged the ready-to-drive kart range, featuring electric start vehicles already fitted with engine and tyres. But, above all, a strict Regulation, banning the replacement of all technical accessories (axles, hubs, spindles, etc) as well as imposing the employment of one engine only bearing the same serial number of the original frame, was created to reduce costs to the minimum. This choice has made costly engine rental unnecessary. It must be added that the Regulation also imposes the type of oil, its mixing percentage and the type of tyres; the latter feature a medium-hard compound guaranteeing excellent duration. It must be also pointed out that the regulation will not be changed for minimum 5 years, contributing to keep second hand karts prices high.
The path that Birel has drawn for the future of the Easykart project is extremely clear: it is about continuing the great commitment to the support of the needs of basic pilots while collaborating with all the ASNs that will share the same targets. Easykart is currently the most effective promotional single brand in International ambit, thanks to its presence in 18 countries worldwide and to the World Final that, each year in October, gathers the best pilots of each national championship. The success of Easykart certainly relies on the great authority of Birel (promoting company) that, in addition to coordinating all the promotional services and activities, guarantees great support to the single ASNs regarding technical inspection. In fact, in the case of single brands, only technical conformity allows the best pilots to stand out, and this is one of the guarantees that make Easykart Trophy the most authoritative and best training program. A program that focuses especially on juniors, for whom Birel has also created the EASYKART DRIVER PROGRAM project, a direct support scheme for the best racers dedicated to upgrade to KF classes. An official Junior Team operating internationally in KF 3 category has been set up for this purpose, a structure that is employed also for tests and training dedicated to the many pilots under option.
